I just love Angie here over at Losing It and Loving It and am doing the two step to show how happy I am to be here on my Overcome Your Negativity Spring Forward Blog Tour.
I put the two-step remark in there because Angie knows me as a country dancer, a mom, a blogger, joyful, patient, etc. You could say that she could put many labels on me in the scope that she knows me.
What about you? If set a sixty second timer what types of labels would you put on yourself? A label could be things like you do like “mother” or a descriptive word like “patient”. Go on…take a moment. I’ll wait.
Now look at your list? Are any of them founded in an untruth?
Let me share a personal example of a label being founded in an untruth? When I did this exercise awhile back, I had put the word “lazy” on my list. If you would ask anyone that knew me…that was not how they would describe me. They would simply say that I was too busy.
You see at that time I was an assistant girl scouts leader, a Weblo scout leader, homeschooled my children, taught children’s church on Sunday and oh yeah…had two foster kids living with me. I was having extreme struggles keeping all my plates spinning.
If I would work harder and not be lazy, I could get my “to do” list done. Remember we are talking about something that actually ran in my mind. I thought that I was lazy because I wouldn’t be willing to work later or get up earlier to get more time into my day. It wasn’t until I was reviewing my list that I began to see that the label of “lazy” really was a untruth…it just isn’t healthy to get less sleep…as it was many days I was getting less than the 8 hours my body craves.
Identifying the destructive labels is a great step in seeing how you may be talking bad about yourself.
I love that quote “Rule your mind or it will rule you. ” I want you to be reminded of this so if you are signed up to receive the Spring Forward Blog Tour updates, you will already have access to a special printable sign that I made for the beautiful people here at Losing It and Loving It. You can still sign up for tour updates and get the printable. No problem!
Now go on–destroy your destructive labels!
