It’s Fit & Healthy Friday
Today’s Tip: Advantages of Eating Breakfast
There are quite a few advantages of eating breakfast. Eating breakfast will help keep you from snacking throughout the day, give you more energy and help you concentrate better. Refueling yourself after a night of sleep is very important. Eating breakfast will help raise your metabolism too. Make sure your breakfast includes the following: whole grain, fiber, calcium and protein.
It was definitely a challenge for me to add breakfast to my day as I was only drinking coffee. But gradually I did start eating it and what a positive difference it made and now I can’t live without it. If you are like I was and are only used to drinking coffee for breakfast, you could whip up a quick smoothie, eat a piece of fruit, or have a slice of toast with peanut or almond butter to start. I’ll touch on more great breakfast ideas in another post sometime.
Do you eat breakfast on a daily basis? If so, please feel free to share some of your favorite healthy breakfast foods. If you don’t currently eat breakfast, I would like to challenge you to start your day right with a healthy breakfast.

Eating breakfast has always been a sore spot with me. I’m notoriously bad at it. One of the things that’s helped is that I’ve gotten away from the “breakfast food” idea. Waking up and hitting a lot of carbs just didn’t do it for me; it made me sluggish throughout the day. Now I eat a regular meal for breakfast, or grab some yogurt and a banana if I’m on the run.
This morning I’m sitting down to a lean beef and greens in a whole wheat wrap before heading out to work out at the gym and pool. Today is a 5 hour workout, and I’m going to need the fuel. I’ll also be packing a lunch (generally I wait until I get home) of a half chicken wrap and a banana.

I am a breakfast eater. I eat a small one when I first get up along with my necessary cup of coffeee just to wake up my metabolism which includes protein and a complex carb….like an apple and a glass of milk, or some chicken on a slice of wheat bread. Then about 2-3 hrs later after my hour workout, I usually have a protein shake and a bowl of oatmeal with flax and milk. After my workout, my body practically screams for it!

Thanks for sharing ladies. I’m glad to hear you both eat breakfast. And Kate, I think it’s great that you moved away from the breakfast food but still eat something healthy. Great idea. And a 5 hour workout? WOW, you go girl.
Happy Friday!

There has actually been some research lately showing that a ” Big Breakfast” diet is more successful at long term weight loss than a “low carb” type of diet
A synopsis of the research can be found here – https://healthhabits.wordpress.com/2008/06/24/the-big-breakfast-diet/
