It’s been a rough month or so. I haven’t been around because since the middle of October until just last week, my left knee was in a lot of pain. Consistent sharp shooting pains. I couldn’t get in sooner to see the doc but already had an appointment to check up on blood work and my leg numbness so he checked the knee out too.
Basically blood work was fine (I was low on iron). The EMG test I had for the numbness in my right thigh was no fun and shows some neuropathy. Back X-ray shows mild arthritis and pinched nerve.
Nothing much he could do about the pain in my knee but give me pain meds. They didn’t work, I was up all night crying for almost 2 weeks. I iced it, heated it, bought crutches, you name it. Nothing helped. About 5 days ago the pain stopped and I have been fine (unless you count being extremely tired). Weird.
My trip to the orthopedic doctor didn’t result in much except he was really compassionate and they took X-rays and found mild arthritis in that knee. So now there’s arthritis in the left knee AND lumbar area.
As far as the knee, no idea what caused the pain. If it comes back, I call the ortho. He thinks it’s OK for me to get on the recumbent bike and do my workouts but of course take it easy.
He wasn’t able to help me with the leg numbness and pinched nerve because his exam came up normal. I now need to be referred to a neurologist. This is getting fun!
To be honest it’s all been a blur. I feel like I’m just falling apart but there is not much else I can do. Ever felt that way?
I have done some research on my own but obviously can’t self diagnose. First Google told me it might be a torn ACL, then a torn meniscus. Then my dad sent me info on gout and that sounds VERY similar to my symptoms. I will bring it up to the doc next time I see him because I’m sure I will be back in the office soon. That is if he’s still my doc. Insurance is changing after less than a year so who knows.
Anyway, it’s now November and life goes on. This is supposed to be my November goal post. I’m not even sure what I want my goals to be. I just want to feel better and catch up on sleep.
I found this cool challenge, Healthy for the Holiday Challenge from 11/9-11/18 2015. I definitely need to focus on eating better so this would be a great start.
