Almonds – A Necessary Pantry Staple

Disclosure: This post may contain referral/affiliate links.

National Almond Day

Happy National Almond Day. Almonds are a staple here in our house. I like to snack on them plus our Blue & Gold Macaw loves to eat them (in the shell) as well.

We keep our almonds in an air tight food container (like this) in the cabinet avoiding sunlight. You don’t want to put them near anything that has a strong smell because they will absorb it. Ick!

There are so many benefits of almonds, we could go on all day. Here are my top 3 benefits of almonds:

  • Great protein source
  • Helps reduce risk of heart disease
  • Good for your brain, bones and teeth!

That’s enough to make me want a handful a day!

I can’t get enough of different almond butters (+ cashew and peanut butters). One of my true loves!

There are so many different brands and types of almond butters. I wouldn’t mind a sample of them all lol

You can buy travel sizes and make your own too. Check out this video on how to make your own almond butter.

I also drink almond milk. There are two brands that I love, Blue Diamond Almond Breeze and Silk Pure Almond. Delish.

Now imagine almond butter AND almond milk blended with banana, chocolate protein powder and some ice. Oh yea! Now that is a smoothie to die for. In fact, I have had this before but now that I have a pretty new red Vitamix blender, I will have to whip it up again. Delish!

Speaking of chocolate protein powder, I just bought this kind, so far so good:

These almond butter bars look yummy too. What say you? Oh and here’s how to make almond milk at home. Pretty cool.

You can also make almond oil to add flavor to foods. I like to add almonds to salads and other dishes too.

Angie’s tip: Carry a baggie full of almonds every where you go just in case you get hungry or just need a quick boost of energy. Almonds do that for ya. Eating almonds on an empty stomach will increase and speed up absorption of the almonds nutrients.

And FYI those with gallbladder or kidney issues should check with their doctor before eating almonds.

How do you like your almonds?
