Joint pain is no fun. I have had it all…from the hip to knees to arms, neck and back. I have spent time with a physical therapist for all kinds of aches and issues no one can figure out. The physical therapy felt good but didn’t fix the issue(s).
I remember back not too long ago when a sharp shooting horrible knee pain woke me from a deep sleep. No one could figure out what it was. It was constant pain, all day, all night for over a week.
I even had to buy crutches. Thankfully Amazon was able to get them to me within 2 days. Then the sharp pain just suddenly went away. Weird!
I still have trouble sometimes walking up and down stairs and my knee snaps at various times. Scary.
I also suffer with some other pains in my hips and arms as I move during sleep at night. Needless to say I don’t ever get enough sleep. That’s another story.
I always try to stay positive but feeling constant pain like this is not always easy to cover up. I know many of you can sympathize.
When I suffer from hip and knee pain, it stinks because I want to get in my exercise. I enjoy walking (make sure you have a good pair of shoes), hopping on my spin bike and doing at home workout videos. When I’m having pain issues, I feel like I’m totally missing out.
I still follow some of the exercises from my physical therapist and use a Tens unit but nothing totally solves the problems. I try to walk as much as possible if I can’t do anything else.
I have my granddaughters asking to go on walks or play basketball or go to the park. Plus my friend asks often if I want to go on a nice trail walk. I always feel like Debbie Downer when I say no because once again, I’m in pain. The story of my life.
All this pain totally impacts my life and not in a good way most of the time.
It’s so important to get out and spend time with family and friends. You only have one life to live, so better make it meaningful and do things together so you can always look back and reflect on the great times. There are so many things I would love to do.
I especially want to go to Starved Rock in IL. Doesn’t it look beautiful?
To see those stunning waterfalls, it will take a good hike. And not an easy one at that I hear. I will do it one day though. Mark my words.
I’m tired of sitting things out. What about you? I think it’s time to get out there and do what we love. Right?
Please don’t ignore your pain.
Talk to a physician about the potential for hip and/or knee replacements. My grandmother had a knee replacement many years ago. I don’t quite think I’m at that point yet but I’m not opposed to it if it ever came down to it. My aunt is also having her 2nd knee replacement this week. Have you ever had a hip and/or knee replaced?
Find a doc in your area to talk about solutions for your pain. At https://www.timetohitplay.com/ you can see what your next steps could be, they are there to help.
I noticed on their site as I was perusing that they offer less invasive options to try out first before going for the big step of a total replacement. Did you know there are knee injections and a procedure called arthroscopy where the surgeon can see inside your knee? I doubt my grandmother had all these options back then. So we are very lucky to have them now.
Pain stinks.
This is kind of how I feel sometimes:
OK a lot of times. At one point, I had lost weight, quite a bit of weight and have gained a lot back. Bummer for sure. Now I have to do things totally different than when I first started on my health journey. I’m older and my body is not as flexible as it once was. Don’t let yourself go like I have in the past. Time to look forward and live the best possible life you can.
Don’t forget to reach out to someone if you have knee/hip pain concerns. If you have questions, a great place to start is at https://www.timetohitplay.com/. Use their physician locator to find someone in your area.

Joint pain is never fun to deal with. I was an athlete in college and it really took a toll on my body. It feels at least 10 years older than it should. I sometimes have pains in my joints when I don’t do anything to cause that pain.
The pain is something to never be ignored. If you figure out what is causing the pain as soon as you start to feel it then you may not have to even consider having knee replacement since I think that should be done as a last resort.
