Fun Memory Making Family Camping Activities to Do

One of the reasons people love camping is for the fun family camping activities they can do. What you do on your camping trip depends on where you go. Read on for a list of family camping activities you might enjoy. A lot of people like to go somewhere with planned activities. We like to venture out on our own.
List of Ideas for Family Camping Activities
Some places have activities like swimming, hiking, ziplining, horseback riding, white water rafting and more. These are all great to do with experts of course. Here are some other super fun activities to do while camping.

- Take Photos – It’s a great time to practice your photography when you’re camping and outdoors. You’ll get a lot of great shots. Don’t forget wildlife, flowers, plants, water sports, etc. Taking pictures of everyone having fun is always great to look back at years later. Keep the memories alive for generations to come.
- Watch Wildlife – Whether it’s watching birds or other types of wildlife, you can learn so much when you’re out in nature. I hear there’s an app to identify animals so if you’re phone is accessible while camping, check out that fun option. I bought Kev some night vision binoculars like these one year for Father’s Day. We LOVE watching the raccoons at night while camping….because that’s about all there is to see where we go camping.
- Fishing and Boating – Some people like to catch their dinner, so if you have a boat you have many additional options while you’re camping. Even if you don’t have a boat, you may still be able to fish. Make sure to always check licensing requirements before fishing. We have been to a few campgrounds that allow fishing but it’s not an activity we personally enjoy.
- Read a Good Book – When you’re camping, it’s okay to relax. You can sit in a comfy chair, or if you have a hammock, lay there while you read a good book. It’s easier to read a book outside or use a Kindle Paperwhite. I like to bring books and my Kindle camping. Reading a good book while camping is something I really enjoy.
- Kayaking/Canoeing – If you’re camping near a lake or river, it’s likely that you can also enjoy time on the water kayaking and/or canoeing. You may not even need your own canoe because most campgrounds rent them. We have a couple inflatable kayaks and now each of us have hard side kayaks like this one. We love kayaking.
- Singing around a Fire – Even if you can’t play guitar, you can use a battery-powered radio or your phone to play music while you’re sitting around a fire enjoying s’mores. Singing together is always a fun activity. Remember to be aware of your neighbors. Keep the volume to a minimum.
- Trail Walking – Many campsites have trails. Some of them have history markers, and others have exercise points where you can stop to do a different exercise. Don’t forget your walking sticks. The most fun is when you have a mix of scenery, history AND exercise. One of the campgrounds we go to also has horseback riding.
