Today’s Tip: Get fit with an exercise ball chair
I have experienced amazing benefits to using an exercise ball as a chair. Sitting on an exercise ball chair (also called the balance ball chair) engages the core and it has helped my leg circulation and the focus on my posture so it’s better. No more slump! I feel more energetic with the constant movement on the exercise ball. Like Leslie Sansone says, it’s active sitting so how can you not get something good from it. I’m constantly wanting to move side to side and rock back and forth.
My exercise ball chair is just the exercise ball by itself with no back or casters. I would like one of those at some point but for now the single exercise ball works fine for me. I don’t sit on it all day long but only every so often.
When to use an exercise ball chair:
*At a desk in your office
*Watching TV in the living room
*Use it when guests are over so they can use normal chairs (although I guarantee you’ll have a fight on your hands once they see your cool chair!)
I would personally say the exercise ball chair is the #1 seat solution for many people! Of course if you have any health issues like back problems, etc. you’ll want to always check with your physician first to see if it’s OK to use one.
Do you have an exercise ball chair (aka balance ball chair)? If so, what is the most unique place you have used it.

Angie, I’ve heard that this is a good way to develop your core muscles, but I am so out of shape that I’m afraid to try it. How do you adjust the height of the chair? It’s a little scary to me, since I actually fell in my office last year. My dog Rusty was right underfoot and I lost my balance, trying not to step on him.
What you suggest about using it now and then could be a solution for me. Thanks.
Best for now,
Mary

This chair is great for building the muscles in the abdomen and back. It will take time to get used to sitting on it. Your body has to learn to balance.

Mary, it says the chair has an adjustable support bar. Exercise balls are definitely challenging and I have fallen over so I think it would be best to start using the ball off of the chair and start using it by kneeling on the ground and playing around with the exercise ball to test it out. When you decide to try sitting on it just be sure you have something to hold on to nearby, maybe a couch or hubby ha ha.

Dr. thanks for stopping by. Appreciate your input. The exercise ball is definitely good for balance and I can always feel the muscles working.
