To Fly or Drive: That is the Question
We are trying to plan our vacation to Florida and after checking out prices on flights AND a rental car, we have come to the conclusion it would probably be more cost effective to drive the 20 hours to Florida. We will be staying with friends in Ormond Beach, FL (Ormand By the Sea, a barrier island) most of the time. We were HOPING to also spend 2-3 days in Orlando at the end of the trip.
If you don’t already know, I do not like to ride/drive AT ALL. When we go to Oklahoma we drive straight through the full 12 hours and I am beat down by the end of that trip. I cannot even imagine driving all the way to Florida BUT if it’s going to save us under $1,000 it might be totally worth it. I don’t really know though.
Calculating it out, if we didn’t drive straight through, it would take a total of 4 driving days to and from and we were ultimately only going to be in Florida for 6 days. So unless Kev can take off more days, it would be useless to drive. Don’t think I could handle driving straight there either. Unless of course we could rent a convertible! Now that would be fun ha ha
I thought it was affordable to fly to Florida but apparently I was totally mistaken. We were even looking to fly into Orlando, FL where I heard it was less expensive than flying into Daytona.
The reason we are even considering driving is there are more things we want to do while we are there that won’t be cheap. Kev and I want to go to both NASCAR races the weekend we are there plus we want to do Seaworld AND possibly 2 days at Disney. See the dilemma?
Decisions, decisions!
Fly or Drive? What would you do?

Of course I say Fly… so you’re not too tired to enjoy your guests. In addition to Orlando, look for Flights into Jacksonville. I often set up a search in Kayak for low fares.
