I have been curious so I’m just going to go ahead and ask. Been reading a few blogs where they say they exercise while reading magazines on the cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, stair master, bike, etc.) I watch some ladies do this at the gym and just wonder how in the world they pay attention and not fall off the machine. That could be quite dangerous I would think. I was able to read on the stationary bike however it was a no go on all other machines especially on the elliptical because my eyes could not focus with all that movement I’m making. I can’t even watch the TV while on the treadmill ha ha
For me personally, I feel you would get a much better workout by focusing on your exercise therefore burning more calories. But yep, I know everyone has a different reason for working out, I was just wondering how they do it. Since I’m not that coordinated I just listen to my ipod and focus on my numbers.
Do you read while exercising on cardio machines?

I personally have a difficult time reading while doing any exercise. Give me some tunes and I am good! 🙂

It depends on the machine. If I’m on treadmill no, but I tend to end up jogging as well and I get distracted easily. lol
Bike, yes I can read and do that. Elliptical I can usually as well. I don’t find a lot of articles to actually “read” so my focus isn’t so much on words, but flipping. It also works well on days that I’m not as committed to the work out because it will cover the screen so I’m not focused on every single second ticking by.
But I understand what you are talking about with many that read on the cardio machines. They aren’t really getting a workout but they sure like to pretend in their heads they did. No sweating and their heart rate never broke 120 bpm. lol That is not cardio, that is a nice leisurely walk.

I do read or watch TV on the treadmill. Otherwise I get bored and want to quit too early. I was trying to see if I could rig my laptop up to it so I could read all my blogs while I’m walking. That’d pass the time a lot quicker! As far as not focusing on my workout- I usually walk 2.5-3mph… enought to get my heart rate up and it’s better than sitting on the couch watching TV or reading. Any movement is better than no movement.

Very interesting to hear different opinions. Thanks for your input.
Ahh rigging the laptop would be cool Jennifer but I would probably still wouldn’t be coordinated enough to read LOL
