Ryka Shoes for Women
My Ryka cross training shoes arrived last week, the box was so light I almost didn’t think there was anything in it. The company offered me a free pair in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own of course.
I was sent a pair of the woman’s Intent XT 2 SR. I chose these because the fact they are cross training shoes and designed for a variety of activities.
They are also water and stain resistant and have an anti slip traction outsole which is perfect as a work or service shoe. Here are some other stats from their website:
- Leather, synthetic and air mesh upper in a trainer sneaker style
- Lace-up front, padded tongue and collar
- Direct-Fuse and stitched overlays
- Textile lining, cushioning Precise-Return(TM) insole
- Compression molded EVA midsole with S.G.S midfoot shank
I tried them on right away and they fit so comfortably. I have been wearing them for a week now and so far I like them….a lot. Now all I need are some new fitness socks.
The real test will be when I start working out again (I’ll be starting slowly with walking and the recumbent bike) AND we’ll see how they do walking all over San Francisco & Carmel/Monterey.
The only thing I have found was they sometimes squeek when I walk in them BUT this is not the only pair that has done that (I have a slip on pair of sneakers from a different shoe brand and they do the same thing). I have a feeling it’s me and the weight that I carry. Gotta work on that! So as I lose weight, I bet I’ll see a difference.
I had never tried the Ryka brand but so far so good. They have quite the variety of shoes for women. And some fun colors to boot.
Here’s a bit about the company:
For over 25 years, Ryka has been innovating athletic footwear exclusively for women. From the shape of her foot to the angle of her stride, they understand that women require more than just a downsized version of a men’s athletic shoe.Ryka knows that a woman’s foot shape, muscle movement, and skeletal structure are all inherently different from a man’s. The “Q-Angle” (quadricep angle)—the anatomical relationship between the hip and knee—measures 5-7 degrees greater for women than men. As a result, women tend to shift more weight to the outside of their feet which leads to over-pronation, instability at foot strike, and higher risk of injury. Rykä’s design philosophy integrates all of their technologies into one of the most researched, women-specific lasts in the industry. A complete footwear solution that fits the shape of a woman’s foot perfectly—with a narrower heel, roomier forefoot, increased instep volume, and more secure footbed. The result is a high-performance, athletic shoe engineered to address the unique biomechanics of active women for unsurpassed fit, comfort, cushioning and control. At Ryka, they believe in an active, inspired and balanced life for all women
Be sure to check out their training, running and walking shoes. I wouldn’t mind a pair of the Ryka Devotion walking shoe in grey/blue/orange (they are only $79.99) and were the winner of the Prevention magazine 2014 shoe awards.
What really makes me happy about Ryka is that they have apparel for plus size women. I also have my eye on a pair of the stroll capris, a lace tank and their In Motion black pants. Their purple hoodie looks awesome too.
It’s really hard to find sporty plus size clothes so it’s nice to have another choice. I’m impressed with the company and shoes so far. You can connect with Ryka on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.
Have you tried any Ryka products?

I hadn’t considered them either and I really like how light weight the ones I have feel. If we didn’t have two big vacations coming up, I might buy the walking shoes NOW. We’ll see.
