Are you struggling with how to motivate yourself? We all need someone in our life to help motivate us. Watching the Biggest Loser show for this week was quite emotional for me. I have had a rough year or so when it came to weight loss and keeping up with my healthy lifestyle and I saw a lot of myself in many of the people that were on the show this past week.
As you all know, my main goal here on this blog is to help motivate others but I’m realizing that I need to find someone who can really motivate me too. I am so thankful and love that my hubby can do that for me but I also need someone outside of the family and friends who can push me as well. I would give anything to have a local trainer who could work with me to get me back on track. I have been lucky enough to have a few awesome personal trainers (you know who you are!) give me tips and help me over the years however they have been in other states and it’s just not the same.
I know how to motivate others but lately when it comes to motivating myself I’m having a really hard time. I know I want to be healthy and lose weight/inches and I have done it before so I know it’s possible but it’s hard. Ever felt that way?
When it comes to running, I’m struggling the most and Kev just asked me this morning about when we’ll be signing up for a 5k run. I know I want to do one because I need to make it happen so that I can be properly trained and ready to run the Reggae Marathon 1/2 in December which we have already signed up for. I’m not worried at all about being the last to cross the finish line but at this point, the most I have run at one time was 2 minutes and I have done that very few times. I’m not sure why I struggle so much with running because I can do a tough hour long spin class, do kickboxing, 5 mile Walk Away the Pounds, etc. with no problem. I’m not giving up but I just wish I knew why this running stuff is so tough for me.
I’m glad to be back blogging. Been away traveling for over 15 days and ready to kick it up a notch. Hope everyone is doing well.
Have you ever struggled with how to motivate yourself?

An hour long spin class? I can’t even imagine!
I can give up sweets, crunch-salty snacks, and soda, but I cannot motivate myself to work out. I absolutely hate to sweat. I hate the achy tired feeling when I’m done. I resent the time I spend doing it.
I’m hoping I just haven’t found the exercise for me, and when I do, I’ll love it. So I signed up a for a yoga class. Maybe that will be my thing. 🙂

Self-motivation is always a tough one. To keep myself going I have several reminders of my unfit life around the house and even a couple that are always traveling with me. For example I have my before picture hanging on my fridge, I wear my watch without the links that it should have removed because it constantly reminds me of the times that it used to be tight, and I refuse to have a new ID picture taken for work as the one I have now is of me at the highest weight. All of these things give me visual prompts to stay on track and keep my motivation.

Drop me a pm over at SSWT if you want to talk motivation with me (I have a 5k coming up August 30th myself, so I need to get started running again myself)

I stumbled across this site when googling information regarding the Eating Clean Diet, as the concept has peaked my interest. Oddly enough, your post about motivation most certainly caught my eye. I’ve tried about everything out there; low-fate this /carb free that, Weight watchers, Slim-4-Life, diet pills, etc. I’m not saying that these programs and diets don’t work; in fact, I’m sure they do if you stick with them. I often find that I lose steam within a few weeks, if not days of starting these programs. I have tried and failed at so many different attempts to loose weight that I have reached the point of being scared to even try anything new for fear I will fail, yet again.
So now, here I sit all 200+ pounds feeling utterly defeated. This is the most that I have ever weighed in my entire life and it is causing havoc in my life, my marriage, my health, my mental and emtional well-being and I don’t like it at all. It’s as if someone else has control over my life and I am forced to move through it, helpless. So, Angie if you are look for something to motivate you, maybe think about the fact that you have made progress, a ton of it! And there are people like me who are still lost and trying to figure out a way to some how start down that long path and we need people like you to motivate us.

Shannon,
I’m so glad you found my blog! I’m here to help motivate you if you want me to. I prefer to not use any special pills or programs like you had mentioned because we have to remember this is going to be a LIFE change and we have to find something that will work forever. I totally know where you’re coming from when you say you feel defeated. It’s been a long road and struggle and I still have such a long way to go. BUT I know that it feels great and it can only get better. Sure it’s tough work but once you find the things that you like to do and a support group, I think you’ll start to see progress. So first thing, are you on Facebook? If so, follow my healthy living, weight loss/fitness Facebook page over there and when you’re ready use it for accountability. Also, I will be happy to answer any questions you have and it would be great if you could send those to me via email at angie @ losingitandlovingit.com (no spaces) and I’ll put them on the blog so others can learn too. I’m glad you posted because the first step is really telling others you need help and we can all work together to meet our goals.

Sorry your having motivational issues…but know that you are not alone. It is so easy to be “motivated” when things are going well. But when we are faced with things we don’t want to do or have a hard time doing…it seems the “motivation” slips.
After reading your post, my first instinct was: she really doesn’t want to do the running thing.
And your trying to pump yourself up to doing it, but your heart is not in it.
Maybe some honest self talk about that will help you to determine what is best for you.
And to share a little tip I use to self motivate me: small little accomplishments…and give myself a little pat on the back when I achieve them. It starts to make me feel good about myself and/or my efforts again.
Plus, I think about my last visit to the nursing home or rehab center or the Vets’…and then I realize that I am the lucky one..because I get the opportunity to work on my problem.

Thanks Gretchen…it’s been a while now and I got my mojo back once we decided to walk the 1/2 marathon and not run it. There is a post coming this week about it. I actually do like running a little bit BUT not when I get to the point I can’t breathe outside so I know that long distance running is not for me but at least I tried!
