Back in the groove and spinning away

Disclosure: This post may contain referral/affiliate links.

I think I’m back in the groove with exercise and may have found the way to make up for the 3 days of kickboxing that I had to give up a while back due to a bum knee.  If you recall back in April 2008, Kev and I took our first spinning class.  Now that we have been doing that for 10 months we have added more spinning classes to our calendar.  We usually go on Saturday and Sunday mornings and now we have added two nights during the week when we are able to.  It felt so good to complete FOUR spin classes this week.

We are now really considering purchasing spinning shoes.  We did some research a few months ago and went to a bike shop to price the shoes out and WOW it’s going to be a pretty penny by the time we are done buying spinning shoes for the two of us. You can read more about spinning (indoor cycling) here if you’re not familiar with it.

Exercise was good this week but I don’t think my heart rate monitor is set correctly and believe my calories burned are too high.  We are going to test it out next weekend to be sure.  This is what I accomplished this week.

Stats for the week of February 2-8 2009

Monday-

*Elliptical
Time: 10:31 minutes
Miles: 1.00
Calories burned:190

*Spin Class (Strength was supposed to be Interval)
Time: 52:47
Calories burned: 970

Tuesday- Day Off

Wednesday-

*Elliptical
Time: 10:31 minutes
Miles: 1.00
Calories burned: 208

*Spin and Core Class (Strength)
Time: 59 minutes
Calories burned:1028

This class was by far one of my favorites.  After the ride, we did approx. 10 min. of ab work on the mat.  It was great!

Thursday-

*Walk Away the Pounds Walk Slim 2 mile DVD
Time: 35 minutes
Miles: 2
Calories burned: 610

Friday- Day Off

Saturday-

*Strength Training
resistance band 3 sets of 10, 12 lb body bar lifts 3 sets of 10, 6 lb medicine ball toss with Kev
Time: 10 minutes

*Spin class (Strength)
Time: 1 hour 4 minutes
Calories burned: 1240

Sunday-

*Elliptical
Time: 10 minutes
Miles: .93
Calories burned: 175

*Spin class (Interval)
Time: 55 minutes
Calories burned: 1009

The spin class on Saturday was a bit too much for me and I overdid it.  Was sick all day after that but was fine for today’s (Sunday) spin class.  It was way too hot in the room yesterday and I got the chills.  It was not fun.  Saturday spin class is tough for me to get to. I am always fighting it because it’s an XL class, a much longer one than your normal spin class.  Anyway, hubs has to push me every Sat. to get there.  Hopefully one day I’ll be excited to go to the Sat. class.  Any tips on how to get over this? ha ha

Hope you all had a great week!

What exercise did you accomplish this week? If you posted it on your blog, feel free to share your link so we can drop by your blog.

Wishing you a fantastic week!

    cool……..spinning shoes!!!!

This week I began to add bursts of running to my walks. I would do about a minute of running and then walk for about 2. It got my heart rate up higher and I was really sweating. I think my body needed this challenge so I am going to continue it and add more time as I feel ready.

I’m feeling in the groove again too. I think getting outside is really helping my mood.

I love spinning! Even at my most fit (which is not right now) it is a killer workout. This week I got on the elliptical for 45 mins and did the Jillian Michael’s Body Makeover DVD’s (my butt is still sore from these).

Spinning is a great workout but for a long time I didn’t care for it too much. I still struggle going on Saturday’s because it’s an XL class and is over an hour long. Glad to hear you like it.

All Jillian Michael’s videos sound great. I have a few that utilize the step but my step is not long enough so it’s uncomfortable to do the dvd’s I do have.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, Erika
