The power to change your life lies in the simplest of steps. Small and specific is best for goal setting success.
You might have seen me share my vision board recently on social or in my online dream board post. I wanted to share it to put it out in the Universe. Focusing on our vision totally helps with goal setting success. I know I can make it happen. We ALL can.
You only have one life. And trust me, I know how quick it could be taken from you. I can’t believe it’s been 8 months since I went into the ICU. God had other plans. Ya’ll need to think big and make your life count.
I’m not a frou frou person but I do know if you focus on your dreams/goals and make it a point to live a happier, healthier life, everything will change.
The power to change your life lies in the simplest of steps.
5 Simple Steps to Change Your Life
- Surround yourself with positive people
- List 3 things you are grateful for
- Read or listen to inspiring books
- Start every day on a positive note (I AM app, workout, meditate, etc.)
- Don’t dwell on the past or speak about negative experiences.
“What you think about, you bring about”
Lately I learned to really focus on more important things all from watching a few inspiring videos. Now that we have discussed the simple steps to change your life, let’s focus on our goals.
Hey looking at an entire staircase can be intimidating (trust me, for the past 6 months I have struggled climbing them lol). But action is the only way to climb. One foot in front of the other even when I felt I couldn’t take another step.
I might not be at the top, but MY direction is UP. And if you’re standing at the bottom of your own battle, I’d love to help encourage you and keep taking steps, one by one, together.
31 Days to Change: Goal Setting Success!
Note: My mentor did a 31 days to change series last month (the videos I mentioned above). It’s her daily grind that she usually does for us as her team but she’s opened it up to the public to help more people. She’s truly inspiring.
I love all her goal planning videos. As we are getting to the end of the year, it will be time to choose our word of the year for 2022, make a new vision board and set big lofty goals.
Setting goals to work towards sounds like a pretty straightforward task. However, as you probably already know, following and achieving them can prove to be surprisingly difficult.
If you’re looking to actually stick to the goals you set, it all comes down to the way you approach them. There are mistakes you can make with goal setting that can sabotage your chance of success. So, to help ensure you avoid these mistakes, read on to discover 5 ways to approach setting goals and achieving them.
5 Ways to Approach Setting Goals & Achieving Them
- Make sure the goals you set are small and measurable
One of the key mistakes you can make when setting goals, is making them too big. While it’s important to have an end goal in mind, it’s even more important to break down the goal into smaller, easily achievable ones.
You’ll also want to make sure the goals are measurable. This means, knowing how it will feel and what you’ll see and hear once you reach the goal. They can also help you to fully identify exactly what it is you want from life too. So, start by making sure your goals are small and measurable if you want to improve your chances of achieving them.
- Ensure the goals are as specific as possible
Another thing you’ll want to ensure is that you are making your goals as specific as possible. The more vague they are, the less chance you’ll have at actually achieving them. Trust me. Be VERY specific.
This is because, it’s pretty difficult to stay focused on a vague goal. Your mind needs to know the exact steps that need to be taken. So, take your overall goal, such as losing weight, and break it down into more specific, smaller goals such as losing a pound or two each week, or exercising for a set number of days each week.
- Make a commitment to your goals
Whatever goals you choose to work towards, you’re going to need to make a commitment to stick to them. This means, doing everything you can to achieve each goal that you set.
This all starts by writing down your goals, and then coming up with an action plan to achieve them. Remember, make them small and specific for the best chance of goal setting success. It’s also important to realize that you’re not going to see overnight success. Committing to your goals is a long-term process that you’re going to need to continually work on.
- Consider making them public
If you’re worried you won’t have the willpower to stick to your goals, it can help to make them public. That is, sharing them with your friends and family. Or posting it on social for all the world to see, like I did. Once we tell others about our goals, it makes us more accountable to actually achieve them.
Knowing that your friends and family are expecting you to progress with your goals, can help to give you that push to keep moving forward.
- Set a deadline
Setting goals is great but if you don’t have a specific deadline in mind, it’s going to be more difficult to achieve them.
This is because if you give yourself free reign to just work on your goals whenever, it’s more than likely you won’t actually work on them at all. It’s easier to put them off and think “I’ll start on them tomorrow”, then before you know it months have passed and you’re no closer to your goals.
So, give yourself a deadline for each goal you create. Make sure it’s realistic and personalized to suit each individual goal.
Influence of Goals & Decision Making in Your Life
Did you know that the goals you set can have a major impact on your life? You may not realize it, but goals actually play a huge role in how successful and happy you become.
When you set yourself goals, you’re basically living a more intentional life. So, how do goals and decision-making influence your life? Here, you’ll discover everything you need to know about the power of goals and decision making.
Helping you to live with intention
Goals are a great way to help you to live with intention. Why is this important? Because living with intention helps you to become more proactive.
When you don’t have goals, you’ll typically find you lead a more reactive lifestyle. That is, you will spend your time reacting to the situations you’re placed in, and the events which occur, rather than controlling them.
So, if you’re looking to take control of your life and better focus on the things you want, setting goals is crucial.
Keeping you accountable
Setting goals can also make you more accountable. Have you ever noticed at the start of January, gyms get filled up pretty quickly? Then, once the end of January comes, people tend to fall off and the gyms become empty again. This is because, the motivation you initially have to achieve your goals fades pretty quickly.
When you’re determined to meet your goals, and provided you set small, measurable goals, it really does help to keep you accountable. You’ll teach the mind to become more focused and to keep going even when that initial motivation has died down. This is a great skill to develop and it all starts with goal setting!
Helping you to become successful
All successful people have one thing in common – goal setting. Talk to anyone who has achieved what they want in life and you’ll quickly see it’s all about creating and sticking to your goals.
After all, how can you possibly achieve success if you don’t know what you’re aiming towards? Once you’ve got goals, you’ll be able to measure your progress and make adjustments if needed to ensure you meet those goals.
Increasing the chance you’ll fulfill your dreams
Similar to reaching success, you’re not going to be able to fulfill your dreams if you don’t know what steps you need to take to get there. Setting goals helps you to see your future more clearly. It also ensures you have maximum control over how your life turns out.
Rather than letting life decide what it is you’ll achieve, you’re making the decision over how it will be. This can be incredibly empowering and help your dreams become reality much quicker than you would without goals.
Helping to boost your motivation
Did you know that goals can be a great way to foster motivation? While staying motivated to achieve your goals is something many people struggle with, it usually comes down to the fact that the goals you set are too big.
When you break down your goals into smaller, more achievable steps, it actually helps to keep you motivated. Every time you get to add a check mark next to the goal you’ve set and achieved, it increases your motivation to aim towards the next one.
These are just some of the ways goal setting and decision making can influence your life. If you needed more motivation to start setting goals, now you have it. Remember, if you want to make your goals work for you, it’s important you make them small, measurable and quick to achieve.
