Week 2: Get Fit with Family Workouts
It’s week two of the Better Healthy Living Challenge 2015. Hopefully you enjoyed week 1 and keeping an exercise log and weight loss tracking.
This week we’ll focus on getting fit with family workouts. I really enjoy working out alone most of the time but it’s fun to have company once in a while as you get fit.
This week’s goal is to exercise as a family. Family workouts help inspire each other to keep moving.
Ways to Exercise as a Family
There are many ways to exercise as a family. Here are some fun family outdoor fitness activities. I like the idea of taking a family walk before or after dinner. Basketball, volleyball and soccer are popular ways for families to get fit too.
We have a home gym so the grands like to come in there and move sometimes. They also enjoy a little dancing during commercial breaks and we have a recumbent bike we all take turns on while watching TV. If you have a treadmill you’re currently using as a clothes hanger, clean it off and start using it. Let the older kids hop on every once in a while watching a show or while waiting for laundry to finish.
If you have bikes or roller blades break them out and get moving. Heading to the park? Check out all these fun playground workout ideas.
Couples Workouts
Working out as a couple is a great bonding experience. What’s better than to spend time with your biggest fan and someone you love?
Kev hasn’t been working out in the gym and I sure miss our couples workouts. He’s been having some back/neck issues so hopefully one day soon he’ll be able to join me again. We do enjoy walking along the beach and snorkeling while on vacation and he loves to kayak. I hope to join him kayaking in Roatan next month. If all goes well, we are going to look into buying his and hers kayaks for Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Here are some super fun couples workout ideas. Do you and your significant other workout together?
Need some extra fitness motivation to help you get out there and get moving?
Here is a piece on CNN about family workouts that strengthen bodies and bonds. I always love the Let’s Move site too. Here’s some tips on how to make physical activity a part of your family’s routine.
Now get out there and get in some family workouts. What is your plan this week?
